It's all in the Icing

Mia recently turned 2, so I decided it was about time that we got out the cookie cutters and delve into her artistic talent. That talent being the art of eating cookies. It's Valentine's time and my hubby is a cookie-aholic. My thought is to butter him up with some delish sugar cookies with almond icing to put him a mood to treat me wonderfully next week on the big V day. He is the most amazing cook, and I am really hoping I get the steak filet topped with a crab gorgonzola sauce once again!

My  helper Mia

Mia stayed pretty busy during the whole process. The floor apparently needed about 2 cups of flour smothered on it. The kitchen drawers also were lacking something - oh say, icing smeared on the handles. And what better way to remember this experience than food colored icing handprints on the white kitchen cabinents. I'm sure her dad will enjoy her artistic flavor when he gets home and sees what she painted for him. She did finally contain herself to play with the heart cutouts. She called the big heart the "mommy heart" and the small heart the "daddy heart". Hmmm. Should I be offended that she thinks the big, fat one is mommy? I think I will chose to believe it is because I am so loving. That sounds much better.
It was a fun experience that I am sure we will repeat. However, next time I may just drape a painter's drop cloth down in my kitchen. Now lets eat!

Thoughts after 18 months of mommyhood

There are so many things that no one can explain or enlighten you about when you bring your first child into your life and home. A few examples would be:
1. You can never fully understand what it is like to go from a professional life to a stay at home mom life until you actually do it. The change is big and you might think it will end up one way, but in reality it turns out to be completely different from what you expected.
2. Your arms will get very sore and they will stay sore for a long time. Your thumb will ache like no tomorrow. Eventually these growing pains will go away as those muscles build from handling your bundle of joy -- but DAMN, my advice to soon to be moms....lift weights.
3. Poop becomes an everyday conversation. Farts turn into a common air freshner in your house.
4. Onesies are the best invention ever. However, not all are made the same.. there are some clear cut winners out there in my opinion. Carters brand is one of my faves.

However, the one thing that I have realized above all else is that I would never change my life or current situation. I love it and if I were to tell my former self one thing it would be "Don't be so scared of babies. Sure, they are loud, messy, all-consuming and difficult to understand, but all in all, they are pretty cool."

My daughter is now 18 months and is getting very imaginative and easily "wowed" by everyday things. For example, just yesterday the sun was shining in the window creating a long beam. You know, one of those sunbeams where you can see all the dust particles floating around in the air? She didn't see it as dust though. She thought it was the most amazing thing in the world - pointing and saying "oh wow". So I say it wasn't really dust (a girl can dream, right?). No, it was sun fairies dancing in the sunbeam. So now we chase and try to catch the sun fairies. Imagination is one of the greatest gifts we can give our children - it allows them to see the magic in everyday things.
